About the Capital Area Paralegal Association (CAPA)

Capital Area Paralegal Association (CAPA) is a voluntary non-profit corporation comprised of paralegals and legal assistants, students, and vendors in Austin and the Central Texas area.  CAPA was organized in September 1978 by a small group of pioneering paralegals and has since grown into the largest Texas affiliate of NALA - The Paralegal Association.
CAPA's Mission Statement

CAPA's mission is "to serve and promote the paralegal profession."


Goals & Purposes
  • To further education among members of the profession.
  • To promote and protect the general professional interests of paralegals in Austin, Texas, and the surrounding area.
  • To involve paralegals in the shaping of guidelines affecting the regulation and development of the paralegal profession.
  • To provide a forum for an exchange of viewpoints on matters of professional interest.
  • To represent fairly both public and private sector paralegal interests.
  • To establish fellowship among CAPA members, NALA, and members of the legal community.
  • To encourage a high order of ethical and professional attainment.
  • To cooperate with bar associations and other law-related organizations.
  • To support and carry out the programs, purposes, aims and goals of NALA.


How to Contact CAPA

CAPA does not maintain a private office. CAPA is not a legal aid service, nor may its paralegal members be hired for personal legal work. State regulations and the Professional Code of Ethics for paralegals prohibit paralegals from dispensing any legal advice.  Paralegals are not attorneys and cannot practice law individually; they must perform all legal duties and functions under the direct supervision and guidance of an attorney licensed to practice in the State of Texas.
