CAPITAL AREA PARALEGAL ASSOCIATION

MEMBERSHIP


Our application and renewal process is now entirely online!  This means that there is NO PAPERWORK to send in – no transcripts, no signatures, no forms*.  All you have to do is fill out the verification fields, certify that everything is correct, and submit! 

Please note that all information submitted is subject to confirmation by the Membership Committee, the CLE Spot Audit Committee, and the Board of Directors.  Falsification of any membership information can lead to suspension and/or revocation of membership in CAPA.

*If you are selected for the annual spot (random) audit, you will be required to show proof of CLE attendance. Please keep the forms in your personal files to submit if requested. Forms are not necessary for membership application and/or renewal.

As soon as the Membership Chair confirms your payment and information, you can login to the site to see the Job Bank, Members Directory or use the site in other ways.

RENEW EXISITING MEMBERSHIP

Follow the renewal instructions on the Renew Membership page.  You will need the same email address that you previously used with CAPA.  You can add or update information after logging in with your email and password.  Lost or forgot your password?  Use the "Forget Password" link to reset.

RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP

TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP

Members must meet the criteria for the type of membership sought as outlined below. 



Voting

$65/year

A Voting Member must be currently employed full time as a paralegal OR work at least thirty (30) hours per week as a freelance paralegal in the State of Texas, AND meet one of the following criteria:

- a four-year degree;
- completion of a paralegal program;
- five years of paralegal experience; or
- NALA, NFPA or TBLS certification.

Associate

$40/year

An Associate Member must meet one of the following criteria:

- is currently employed as a paralegal but does not satisfy the requirements of a Voting membership;
- is currently employed as a coordinator or supervisor of a paralegal program in a law firm, governmental agency, or corporate legal department;
- is not currently employed as a paralegal, but has completed a paralegal training program; 
- was previously employed as a paralegal, but is not employed at the time of application to CAPA; or
- does not reside or work in the Austin metropolitan area. 

Student

$30/year


A Student Member must be enrolled in a paralegal program at the time of application.  

Emeritus/Lifetime

$75 (one-time)

An Emeritus Member must meet the following criteria: 

- be a former active voting member of the Association;
- served either as an officer/director, or as a Committee Chair of the Association;
- is retired from the profession;
- is not currently employed as a paralegal;
- is in good standing with the Association.


Sustaining

$100/year

Sustaining Members are lawyers, law firms, government agencies, paralegal training programs, institutions and other vendors who serve the legal community. The vendors have an opportunity to network with CAPA members and promote their services at CAPA functions. Sustaining Members also provide valuable services and sponsorship for CAPA events.

   EDUCATION

CAPA offers several hours of CLE throughout the year at monthly luncheons, CLE Seminars, and Lunch & Learns --many at discounted rates or no cost for Members.
