Pro Bono: AYLA Communities First Clinic

  • January 21, 2019
  • 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
  • Community First Village, 9301 Hog Eye Rd., Austin, TX 78724

Beginning this year, AYLA (Austin Young Lawyers Association) is partnering with a local nonprofit and providing quarterly pro bono services for that nonprofit’s clientele. This year, AYLA has selected Community First! Village as our nonprofit partner. Community First! Village is “a 27-acre master planned community that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for the disabled, chronically homeless in Central Texas. A development of Mobile Loaves & Fishes, this transformative residential program exists to love and serve our neighbors who have been living on the streets, while also empowering the surrounding community into a lifestyle of service with the homeless.” You can learn more about CFV at https://mlf.org/community-first/.

The January clinic, Monday, January 21 from 6:00 to 8:00, will focus on a legal service that CFV has identified as a critical need for neighbors who live at the village: helping residents to complete and notarize a life document. The life document acts much like a durable power of attorney and physician directive. We need 20 attorneys to help CFV residents with intake, completing the life documents, and completing an exit interview to determine other on-going legal needs. And, if you’d like to join us, we’ll also be eating dinner with the residents.
